Colombia Travel Guide
Caribbean coasts, coffee mountains, and a country reborn
Why Visit Colombia?
Colombia surprised me more than any country in South America. I arrived with cautious expectations and left completely won over — by Cartagena’s colonial beauty, by Medellín’s extraordinary transformation story, by coffee so good it made everything I’d drunk before seem like warm brown water. Colombia is having a travel moment right now, and for very good reason.

How Much Does Colombia Cost?
Food & Drink in Colombia
Bandeja Paisa
Colombia’s national dish — a massive plate of rice, beans, ground beef, chicharrón, plantain, avocado, and a fried egg. More a life experience than a meal.
Colombian Coffee
The world’s finest mild arabica coffee, grown in the Eje Cafetero’s rich volcanic soil. A tinto (black coffee) here resets your expectations permanently.
Ajiaco
Bogotá’s beloved chicken and potato soup with guascas herb — warming, complex, and utterly comforting at altitude.
Tropical Fruits
Colombia’s microclimates produce exotic fruits unavailable elsewhere — lulo, maracuyá, guanábana, feijoa. Every juice bar is an adventure.
Getting Around Colombia
Domestic flights between Colombia’s cities are cheap and efficient — Bogotá to Cartagena or Medellín costs €30–60. Avianca and LATAM cover all major routes.
Within cities, Uber and InDriver are safe and affordable. Medellín’s metro and cable car system are excellent. Long-distance buses are comfortable for routes like Bogotá to Salento (Coffee Region). Always travel by day between cities.
