UAE Travel Guide
Futuristic skylines, desert adventures, and tax-free luxury
Why Visit UAE?
The UAE caught me by surprise — I expected spectacle and found it, but I also found genuine warmth in the souks, extraordinary food diversity from 200 nationalities living here, and the desert at sunrise which is one of the most profound experiences I’ve had anywhere. Dubai is not subtle, but it is extraordinary — and Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Mosque is simply one of the world’s most beautiful buildings.

How Much Does UAE Cost?
Food & Drink in UAE
Shawarma
The UAE’s street food king — shaved lamb or chicken with garlic sauce and pickles in flatbread. Even in Dubai’s towers, the best shawarma comes from a street stall.
Machboos
The Gulf’s answer to biryani — spiced lamb or chicken slow-cooked with rice, dried limes (loomi), and saffron. The UAE’s most traditional dish.
Karak Chai
Strong, intensely spiced milk tea with cardamom and saffron — the UAE’s social lubricant, consumed at all hours from small chai stands.
Dates
The UAE’s cultural food — the finest Medjool and Khalas dates, often served with Arabic coffee (gahwa) as a welcome gesture.
Getting Around UAE
Dubai and Abu Dhabi have excellent metro systems — Dubai’s Red and Green Lines cover all major attractions. The Palm Monorail connects to the Palm Jumeirah. Ride-hailing (Careem/Uber) is cheap and ubiquitous.
Rental cars are well-priced and roads are excellent — essential for exploring Fujairah, Al Ain, and the Hajar Mountains. Inter-city bus between Dubai and Abu Dhabi runs frequently (2 hours, €5).
FAQ — UAE
Do I need a visa for UAE?
EU, UK, US, Canadian, and Australian citizens receive a free 30-day visa on arrival, extendable once for another 30 days. Most other nationalities can apply for an e-Visa before travel.
What is the best time to visit UAE?
November to March is perfect — temperatures 20–28°C, low humidity. April and October are shoulder season (warm but manageable). May to September is extremely hot (40°C+) and humid — only for those staying near air-conditioned hotels.
Is UAE expensive?
Dubai is expensive for accommodation and dining at tourist venues. However, local restaurants, taxis, and supermarkets are reasonably priced. A mid-range trip costs €140–220/day. The Dubai Duty Free and tax-free shopping partially offset the cost.
What should I know about UAE culture?
Dress modestly in public areas (cover shoulders and knees away from beach areas). Public displays of affection are illegal. Alcohol is only served in licensed hotels and restaurants. Ramadan requires extra sensitivity — eating and drinking in public during daylight hours is discouraged.
What are UAE’s must-do experiences?
Burj Khalifa At the Top observation deck, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, gold and spice souks in Dubai’s Deira, a desert safari with dune bashing, and a traditional dhow cruise on Dubai Creek.
